Counter Culture #25 Spicy Margarita Sour

You've Found The Kween. Or Did The Kween Find You?

It's not every day that you find the Kween.

Let alone the fourth iteration.

If the third time's the charm, the fourth takes it up a notch or 11.

This fourth iteration in the Kween series releases the shackles – dialling it up with the holy trinity of chile de árbol, lime zest and pineapple juice. Hops take a backseat as the Kween reminds everyone what happens when you hit pause on the rules of beer.

We invite you to join the dad dance with our Head Brewer Caolan and explore the inspiration behind the beer, the brewing technique to arrive at this version of the Kween, and immerse yourself in the full tasting notes - just click play below ...

ABOUT SPICY KWEEN

HOPS

FOOD PAIRING
This Spicy Margarita Sour works well with all of your favourite Mexican dishes, from pork and pineapple tacos, to kingfish ceviche tostadas and chicken taquitos – the Kween loves to pair with them all.

AVAILABILITY

The Kween won't be around for long, so get your hands on this new limited release at Stone & Wood online, our Byron and Brisbane Tasting Rooms, and at select venues and bottle shops while you can!

So Long Darkness..? Is Now Available

Check where to find the beer near you

Let there be light– our So Long Darkness..? has left our brewery gates on its way to select venues and bottle shops around the country.

Not all is what it seems with So Long Darkness..?, our ‘invisible’ stout.

Eyes closed, the generous hints of roasted coffee, chocolate and creaminess found in So Long Darkness..? might have you think it were a regular stout. But upon pouring, the way the light shines through this pale liquid might surprise you like an optical illusion. This is, in fact, not a dark beer at all.

The beer’s stout flavours and aromas come through the addition of 45kg of whole unmilled coffee (post-fermentation), 35kg cacao nibs (post-fermentation), 400kg of lactose (kettle) and 15kg of vanilla beans (post fermentation), while the pale malt, wheat and oat backbone of So Long Darkness..? produces the beer’s ‘invisible’ colour.

Alongside the roasted coffee and chocolatey flavours, So Long Darkness..? is smooth and creamy on the palate, thanks in particular to the oats, balanced with the brightness of Galaxy hops.

Available in packs of two 500ml cans at good bottle shops and our online store ($17.50 + shipping), and tapped at select venues, check where to taste or purchase So Long Darkness..? with our Beer Finder or buy now here.

Importantly, we recommend calling your local to check when their stock has landed, as timings will vary depending where you are in the country.

Like all Counter Culture releases, So Long Darkness..? is super limited and will make way for the following release in roughly eight weeks’ time. Embrace the light and look for yours now.

French Toast Stout? It’d Be Rude Not To

Isn’t it time you treated yourself?

Prepare to salivate. Our delectable French toast stout, It’d Be Rude Not To is the third release of our limited Counter Culture range – and a beer for those times you just can’t refuse.

Dark, decadent and oozing with patisserie goodness, we admit It’d Be Rude Not To is a little bit naughty …

The beer

Packed with a tonne of lactose, a tonne of maple syrup, 10 kilograms of vanilla beans and five kilograms of cinnamon, the beer’s unquestionable sweetness is matched by a toasty malt backbone and balanced with Galaxy hops.

Creamy, velvety, It’d Be Rude Not To simply begs for a #cheatday.

Now Pouring: Sticky Nectar - Hazy Mango IPA

Now pouring through taps on the east coast of Australia.

STICKY NECTAR – HAZY MANGO IPA

Throughout the year we release Pilot Batch brews that are special, limited, and once gone, they may never return. It’s a space for our brewers to get creative, an opportunity to trial weird and wonderful things… an experimental playground to get a little fruity.

Normally these one off brews are poured only in our tasting room, and drinkers outside our backyard are left thirsty. We’re excited to announce that this limited release will be pouring from taps along the east coast of Australia from today onwards.

Introducing Sticky Nectar…

We’re ready for longer days…fresh mango juice dripping off your chin as you sit on the back deck in the warm sun. Our Sticky Nectar is a delicious IPA brewed with lactose and truckloads of fresh mango and pours with a golden haze. Hop additions of Galaxy, Citra and Amarillo enhance the tropical fruit aromas, while providing firm bitterness that is balanced with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel and that finishes medium bodied.

“To kick off mango season around the country, we’ve brewed a milkshake style IPA loaded with mango…We wanted to have a bit of fun with this beer to bring in the warmer Spring days, the perfect drinking occasion for Sticky Nectar.” – Caolan Vaughan, Head Brewer
