Read on for Indie Beer Day celebrations at our Byron Tasting Room and Brisbane brewery on Saturday 25 July
Last October, we celebrated the inaugural Indie Beer Day alongside hundreds of independent Australian breweries and thousands of beer-lovers across the country – a day dedicated to recognising the importance and diversity of independently brewed beer and the industry’s contribution to our communities.
This year, Indie Beer Day falls on Saturday 25 July when people around the country will raise their glass for a national ‘cheers!’ to celebrate what we love about indie beer.
With government restrictions and closures, the last few months were undeniably tough for the brewing industry – but fortunately many of us are re-emerging and feeling more passionate about beer than ever. Thanks to this period, we also feel that not only brewers but beer-lovers all around Australia have realised just how important beer, breweries and our local pubs and venues are to our communities.
While restrictions in most states have eased, now seems like a good time to enjoy an indie beer with your mates and give a ‘cheers!’ to independent brewers around the country.
What does independence mean in the brewing industry?
Independence in the brewing world refers to breweries who are owned and operated independently and who value authenticity, localism and the communities built around them. Some 600 independent breweries operate today across Australia, contributing to local economies, industry and employment.
Since we first opened our brewery gates in 2008, we’ve operated as an independent brewery: in fact, independence was a huge part of the vision our three founders had when they set out to build Stone & Wood.
Of course, independence means different things to different brewers, but for us it means that we’re free to run our brewery and our business in the direction that we, as a team, want to take it.
Importantly, being independent means we’ve been able to support our communities through our Karma Kegs and not-for-profit the inGrained Foundation, which just ran a $100,000 Grants Program for Northern Rivers not-for-profits. It also enables us, through our Green Feet program, to invest in equipment and systems that help use natural resources more responsibly.
And, besides being able to strengthen and deepen the ongoing relationships we have with our suppliers and customers, being indie also allows us to invest in our team with personal and professional development funds and childcare schemes, as well as deliver a return for our shareholders – including the plus-70 per cent of our team who have shares in the company.
Simply put, independence means we can do things the Stone & Wood way.
So, on Saturday 25 July, we’re inviting you to join one of our events at our Byron Tasting Room or Brisbane brewery and get amongst the celebrations.
