Due to the devastating floods in the region, we are postponing our Murbah Open Day at the Murwillumbah brewery until later this year. The Stone & Wood team are going to dedicate as much time as possible to help our neighbours and friends through this emergency and into recovery. We’re proud to be a part of such a strong and resilient community and we can’t wait to share a beer with all of you at the end of this journey, and later in the year at Murbah Open Day 💛 |
After a few years (a covid-induced) hiatus we’re stoked to be re-opening the gates to our Murwillumbah production brewery for a day of live music, food trucks, market stalls, Malt Disney kids area and fresh beer for our fourth Murbah Open Day, on Saturday 5 March from 11am – 5pm.
Everyone at Stone & Wood is excited to welcome the Murwillumbah and Northern Rivers communities back to our Murbah brewery, as it transforms into an intimate, open-plan beer festival. Gold coin donation for entry with profits from your good times goes towards a great cause: Tweed Palliative Support & Wedgetail Retreat.
In the spirit of community, all profits from Murbah Open Day will go to our partners, the Wedgetail Retreat, a vital palliative care service operating in the Northern Rivers. With the help of 2020’s attendees, we raised $25,000 for Wedgetail and hope to make the same achievement this year!

The story of Murbah Swamp Beer
One otherwise-normal Good Friday back in April 2001, a semi-trailer carrying 40,000 bottles of beer ran off the Pacific Highway and tumbled into the Tweed River. Soon after, to no one’s surprise, thousands of beer bottles escaped the trailer and began sinking to the bottom of the murky river. No sooner had locals heard about the incident had they made a break for the river, diving in courageously to ‘save’ the still-icy-cold beers. Tropfest captured the whole story, watch their Murbah Swamp Beer YouTube video.
For the true Swamp Beer fans, we’ll have exclusive organic cotton Murbah Swamp Beer T-shirts for sale in the merch tent, with all profits from shirt sales donated to Wedgetail Retreat.
CUP INITIATIVE
We’ll also be operating our cup exchange initiative #forcupssake again, which helps us eliminate single-use cups from our events. When purchasing the first beer of the day, punters simply pay an extra $2 deposit on a re-useable plastic cup that they can return when exiting for a $1 refund.
Stay tuned for the following announcements on market stalls and bus timetables!
Round up the crew by RSVP’ing to our Open Day Facebook event and share with your mates! 🍻
Cheers!
