We brew beers that are simply good to drink, but drinkers are not the only ones to benefit from our production. A herd of local cattle have had their diets improved, supplemented by the nutritious spent grain from our brewery.
Using high grade malted barley and wheat to produce our handcrafted beers, the spent grain, a result of the flavour and starches being extracted from the malt, is set aside as a byproduct.
Instead of having to bin it, we are lucky enough to have some farmers from up the road who are more than happy to take it off our hands.
Head Brewer Brad Rogers said the spent grain is a great nutritious addition to the stock feed with it being high in energy, vitamins and minerals.
Struggling to meet demand, the brewery is working to full capacity. Despite this, we feel the frustration from drinkers being unable to find our beer in bottle shops and bars. We are hoping as Christmas passes and the brewery gets up and running next year that this will no longer be a problem. At least we can rest easy knowing that the cows who are enjoying all the extra spent grain feel like it’s Christmas everyday at the moment!
One of the local Federal cattle farmers Ace, has been with us and supported us from the beginning. He gets a real kick feeding his cows this treat and reckons they just love it!
We have great support from the local community and we love the idea that our byproduct can be of benefit.
