Ingrained
A community initiative
Brewing for the community
Traditionally, a brewery didn’t just supply fresh beer to the locals, it could also be relied upon to help support the wider community. Inspired by this, we established in 2013 our community-focused initiative ‘Ingrained’ to keep us true to our role as the local, independent village brewer and to give back in the areas where we live, work and sell our beer. During this time, we have raised and donated more than $630,000 to a long list of not-for-profits, grassroots organisations and individuals in our communities.
For us, it is about supporting the people who support us. We seek to do what we can by supporting local grassroots causes and charities to assist in creating sustainable social and environmental outcomes. We do this through donations, volunteering, partnerships, fundraising and Karma Kegs. We see this as brewing for the community and using beer as a force for good.
In March 2018, we took the next step, establishing the Ingrained Foundation – a national not-for-profit. Through the Foundation, we will continue to donate $1/100L each year, as well as raising money through our annual events, including our Murwillumbah Open Day (April) and Festival of the Stone (June).
The 2018 Murbah Open Day saw 4,000 people pass through our brewery gates and we raised over $30,000, which we donated to the local charity, Wedgetail Retreat and Tweed Palliative Care.
For Brissy’s beer week Brewsvegas in March, we brewed a collaborative beer with the festival and OzHarvest, donating all of the profits from the sale of the kegs to these two not for profits.
While we’re usually having fun while we’re doing it, giving back to the community is about supporting the people who support us. If can lend a hand in some way, we’ll do it.

Have you ever heard of a Karma Keg?
What goes around, comes around…
A Karma Keg is where we donate a keg to a local pub or venue and people pay whatever they like for the beer until it runs out, with all the proceeds going directly to the cause. Whether it’s the local soup kitchen, an artist co-op, the local longboard club or even an individual in need, our Stone & Wood Karma Kegs are about partnering with local businesses and turning cold, fresh beer into cold hard cash donations for people, groups and charities. We work it off the karmic law of what goes around, comes around so the more you give, the better karma you’ll have!
