Jasper Ale

Red Ale
16 x 375ml Cans

Paying homage to the hinterland village Federal, once known as Jasper.

Enjoying a glass of Jasper, our hoppy red ale, begins with a burst of tropical fruit aromas thanks to the generous additions of Galaxy, Enigma and Mosaic hops. Balanced with a smooth and velvety mouthfeel from a selection of roasted malts, Jasper has hints of caramel, toffee and hazelnut and finishes with a firm bitterness.

THE FINER DETAILS

HOPS

Australian Galaxy and Enigma create a fresh tropical fruit aroma while American Mosaic provides some fresh pine and resinous characters, with underlying flavours of candied fruit.

MALT

Regular Munich Malt, Medium Crystal and roasted chocolate malt, gives Jasper Ale its trademark ruby hue and heavy caramel sweetness. The roasted malt also provides a hit of sharpness that cuts through the caramel flavours.

FOOD PAIRING

Our hoppy red Jasper Ale goes really well with nice roasted meats like lamb shanks in the cooler months.

Jasper Ale

I love Stone and Wood beer for the most part.
Honestly, this one was somewhat disappointing. It seems like the bold, bitter hopping that makes the Stone and Wood pacific ale and other pale ales (like the cloudy or hinterland) so great just didn't suit the red ale style very well.
Additionally, one of the things that makes red ales so nice is the warm malt flavours and yeast phenols, which didn't come through very much or were hidden behind the bitterness. Overall, I think that the style wasn't properly done, at least in the batch I had. I really look forward to seeing where you all take the style though!

Also, whoever designs your cans needs a raise! They're so beautiful.

Thanks, from a stone and wood enthusiast :)
